History

My name is Luis Guzman. I was born in San Isidro, a small military town in the Dominican Republic. As a child, I was influenced and inspired by my father’s work as a soldier in the Air Force. To instill discipline, he routinely took us to military events and activities. I watched troops parachuting from planes, marches in cadence, the pride the soldiers had in their uniforms; all of this taught me the value of practice and dedication in building skill. This helped me to become who I am today.

At the age of 10, my father introduced me to karate and boxing as he felt it would help me to stay focused and disciplined in my school studies. I immediately took both sports, learning everything I could to get better. As a young adult, while working as a mechanic within the Dominican Air Force, I continued to box. Eventually, I transitioned into amateur boxing. Though the training was intense, I was able to perfect my techniques and learn more about the art of fighting an opponent within the ring. To this day, boxing skills is one of the things I enjoy teaching my clients the most.

I began to work as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at Gold’s Gym and other fitness clubs in the Dominican Republic. While there, I won several awards and recognition for my work in fitness.

I held several other jobs during the years and I believe a person can learn and grow in any setting. Through working in an attorney’s office, I learned management principles. Through working in the public transportation system as a bus owner and operator, I learned about business operation. As a mechanic, I learned the importance of being efficient and detail oriented. All of this was good experience; however, I could never set aside my passion and calling for working in fitness. Eventually, I began to work as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at Gold’s Gym and other fitness clubs in the Dominican Republic. While there, I won several awards and recognition for my work in fitness.

In 2008, life took me to Raleigh, NC where I work in fitness full time. I continue to work as hard as I can to help my clients achieve their goals. I know fitness can transform lives for the better and it is my passion to help people accomplish all that they have hoped for.
